What Publishers Need to Learn from Software Developers
There was a great exchange on the O’Reilly editors’ backchannel the other day, so illuminating that I thought I should share it with the rest of you. We’ve been discussing the fast-track development we’re using to produce The Twitter Book. (We’re basically authoring the book as a presentation, after I realized how much more quickly I am able to put… Continue reading

Tweet, tweet! More Twitter tips—this time from Kat Meyer
How to use Twitter for books marketing—or, to be more precise, relationship building? We passed on some tips earlier, and now Kat Meyer, the star of the TeleRead post, shares additional thoughts. For example, how do you pick people whose posts you want to follow?

Celebrities Embrace Twitter (and vice-versa)
When I pondered the future of micro-blogging last June, I wasn’t paying much attention to the few celebrities from pop culture and politics using Twitter. Over the last month, the number of celebrities (from pop culture, sports, and politics) who have appeared on the Twitterholic Top 100 jumped from 7% to 46% of users on a given calendar week. I… Continue reading

The Social Nervous System Has More Than One Sense
Radar’s Joshua Michele-Ross published a fabulous piece on Forbes entitled The Rise of the Social Nervous System. His premise: “…communication is the foundation of society, business and government. When you scale up communications, you change the world….As ever more people get connected, we see an acceleration in the way the Internet is used to coordinate action and render services from human input. We are witnessing the rise of a social nervous system.” Josh focuses on now familiar examples: the Mumbai terrorist attacks as reported real-time on twitter, the Obama campaign (and in particular, the Houdini project), and Google Flu Trends. But Josh weaves them into a powerful conclusion. Continue reading

Author Clare Bell to publish Twitter story
This is from the press release. I wonder how it will work out:
“Ratha, female leader of the Named cat clan, paused on the meadow trail, one forefoot raised.”
When Clare Bell sends that sentence through Cyberspace on March 14, she’ll be launching an experiment: a story told 140 characters at a time using the rapidly [...] Continue reading

How to use Twitter to promote your e-book or paper book—and build professional and personal relationships, perhaps the biggest benefit
TeleRead’s Twitter Champ just might be Kat Meyer, in Tucson, Arizona, who’s done those incisive Q&A’s with Smashwords’ Mark Coker, Stanza’s Neelan Choksi and others.
Kat has pumped out some 5,000 Twitter updates. She subscribes to messages from more than 1,000 fellow users and has attracted more than 1,500 "followers." I also track Tim O’Reilly, [...] Continue reading
Twitter Drives Traffic, Sales: A Case Study
Back in December, Dell reported that offers from its Dell Outlet Twitter account had led to more than $1 million in revenue. A small percentage for a company that books $16B in revenue annually–but a nice number nonetheless, particularly in a dreary economy. Question is: are they the only ones? I haven’t yet found anyone else claiming to have micromessaged… Continue reading
